We are members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), acting as individuals rather than on behalf of the NAS or other institutions. Congress and President Lincoln chartered the NAS in 1863 to provide scientific advice. Members represent all scientific fields and are elected by their peers based on the quality of their research.
The dismissal of scientific evidence in policy formulation has affected wide areas of the social, biological, environmental and physical sciences. It has been particularly egregious in climate science.
We call on the U.S. Federal Government to maintain public scientific content, to appoint qualified scientific personnel, to stop censoring and intimidating Government scientists, and to rejoin the Paris Agreement.
